Ad clicks without orders: locating the break in the customer journey

Clicks without orders do not prove that your product has failed or your pixel is broken. A click may never become a loaded page, a loaded page may not communicate a convincing offer, and a submitted order may never reach delivery. Useful diagnosis divides the journey into stages and looks for the first unexplained break. That lets you repair something specific instead of changing audience, price, image and destination together and losing the ability to interpret the result.
Define the numbers before calculating
Write what each column actually means. Not every click necessarily leaves the advertising platform for your website. A loaded page is not an order. In Matjri’s current integration, InitiateCheckout starts when someone focuses the order form; it does not establish that an address was completed or a purchase decided. Also retain the selected meaning of Purchase: placement, confirmation or delivery.
Record period, area and product beside the figures. Do not compare clicks for several advertised products with orders for only one, or today’s activity with deliveries from last week. Your rows should describe the same scope as closely as possible before you interpret percentages.
Check the journey between clicking and loading
Open the destination inside the application customers use, rather than only on your computer. Inspect the final domain, expected product, redirects and error messages. Try an ordinary mobile connection. Remove unhelpful images that push essential information away from the beginning. Fast loading on an office connection does not establish how every customer experiences the page.
Some advertising tools distinguish landing page views from clicks. Read the official definition for the platform you are using rather than calling every measure a visit. A gap deserves examination, but cannot identify network interruption, departure or measurement differences on its own.
Inspect the offer after the page arrives
Read the advertisement and destination together. Do they show the same product, quantity and price? Is delivery clear? Are dimensions, compatibility and package contents available before deciding? An exaggerated picture may attract curiosity without suitable purchase intent. The appropriate correction may be a clearer message rather than a larger button or charges hidden until the final stage.
Use your Matjri product page to answer questions that repeatedly appear during telephone confirmation. Keep titles readable, images explanatory and options usable on a phone. Do not invent reviews or endorsements to cover missing information. Explain what the customer will actually receive instead.
A fictional funnel example
Suppose there are 100 outbound clicks,70 landing page views under the available measure,14 initial form interactions and 7 orders. Orders represent 10% of page views or 7% of clicks. Both calculations are valid but use different denominators. If 5 orders are confirmed and 4 delivered, delivery among orders is approximately 57.1%, not 10%.
| Stage | Fictional count | Next question |
|---|---|---|
| Outbound clicks | 100 | Does the link work inside the app? |
| Page views | 70 | Is the offer clear and consistent? |
| Form starts | 14 | Are fields and choices understandable? |
| Orders then deliveries | 7 then 4 | Do confirmation and delivery work properly? |
At 55 TND per order, submitted value is 385 TND and the four delivered orders represent 220 TND before costs. Do not substitute one amount for the other without explanation. These figures are teaching examples, not good or bad conversion benchmarks for Tunisia.
Test the form as a customer would
- Select size, color and offer on a small screen.
- Check the final amount and delivery charge before submission.
- Enter controlled test telephone, governorate and address details.
- Check whether error messages identify the relevant field.
- Submit once and verify a clear result and one saved order.
Leaving after opening the form may reflect an unanswered question, a confusing field or an unavailable choice. Avoid summarizing all these possibilities as people refusing to buy. Also record when the form works technically but the offer does not meet the customer’s need; that is a different commercial problem requiring a different response.
Change one supported factor
Choose the first failure for which you have evidence. Fixing a broken link does not require another advertising experiment. Changing an image or clarifying shipping needs observation of comparable visits without changing everything else. Preserve the page version, date and consistent source names. Do not place customer contact information in URLs to make analysis easier.
Your next step is a small sheet listing stage, count, question and evidence. If you are starting, build a product and order journey with Matjri before purchasing more visits. A clear path makes even a limited experiment easier to understand, without guaranteeing that every visitor will buy.
Frequently asked questions
Should I stop after ten clicks without an order?
No number applies universally. Check the destination, risk limit and available information. A confirmed technical fault can justify stopping immediately; a small orderless sample cannot identify the cause by itself.
Does InitiateCheckout mean an abandoned basket?
Not necessarily. It may indicate initial form interaction without saved contact information or follow-up permission. Check the integration definition before building a contact list or asserting firm purchase intent.
Will hiding delivery charges increase sales?
It may change submission counts while creating a surprise during confirmation. Evaluate understood pricing, delivered orders and complaints rather than form volume alone. Customers need to know what they will actually pay.
