Matjri, Shopify or WooCommerce in Tunisia: test before choosing
Compare actual work, annual operating costs and clear responsibilities. Use the same test sheet to check payments, delivery, languages, maintenance and data access rather than choosing by slogans, app counts or an introductory price.

Choosing a platform is an operating decision. One merchant needs local order handling from a phone, another needs deep customisation with a technical team, and another needs a particular international ecosystem. Start with your workflow and test how each option performs it. We are the Matjri team, writing from our own product perspective. This is not an independent ranking. Use documented trials and written conditions to make a decision appropriate to your business.
Put your scenario on one page
List products, options, employees and intended volume without treating that volume as promised growth. Record required payment provider, courier, languages, printed documents and data access. Separate launch requirements from improvements that can wait. Colour selection matters for clothing; a decorative animation may be optional. A feature name on a list is not evidence that your exact scenario can be operated reliably.
Specify who resolves incidents and reviews integration changes. Working alone, you might value correcting a price on your phone more than extensive programming freedom. With a permanent developer, you may accept customisation and maintenance unsuitable for a solo merchant. Different staffing makes different choices sensible; it does not make one platform universally better.
Understand operating responsibilities
Shopify is a hosted service with an app ecosystem, but review the plan, apps and payment arrangement needed in your country. WooCommerce runs with WordPress, and responsibilities vary between managed and self-managed hosting. Its official store-building guide explains those arrangements. Software without a core licence price does not mean operating without hosting, maintenance or work.
For Matjri, test catalogue, orders, delivery workflow and team access against your needs. Do not assume it includes every feature found in another platform’s app directory. The native electronic payment provider discussed here is Flouci. Another provider existing in Tunisia does not establish a native Matjri connection. Obtain confirmation of a critical feature before building a process that depends on it.
Name actual payment and delivery providers
Instead of writing accepts cards, record the provider, business registration country, admission process, testing and settlement terms. Shopify documentation about third-party payment providers helps identify integration and cost questions. An example from another country does not prove a Tunisian business will be accepted or that a particular provider is available.
For delivery, test a local address, collection amount, reference, amendment, cancellation and return. Printing a document, creating a shipment and synchronising its status are distinct outcomes. If manual transfer is required, record the time and assign responsibility. An app named after a courier is not proof it matches your contract or supports every situation you handle.
Use one test sheet for all platforms
| Test | Evidence | Reason to pause |
|---|---|---|
| Two product options | Correct colour and size in order | Selection lost or unexplained workaround |
| Arabic mobile page | Readable total and confirmation | Essential elements overlap |
| Employee account | Task possible without excess access | Owner account must be shared |
| Delivery and return | Understandable steps and statuses | No documented process |
| Data access | Inspected file and clear scope | General promise without a trial |
You can begin by trying Matjri with a small selection and repeating the identical scenario on alternatives. Use fictional contact details and images you own. Keep each test result. Ask how to correct an error after saving and who provides help rather than accepting only an assurance that the task is possible.
Compare a year of operation and team time
For illustration, assume one solution costs 600 TND annually plus 120 TND in tools, totalling 720 TND. Another uses 360 TND hosting, 240 TND maintenance and 180 TND extensions, totalling 780 TND. Payments, delivery and personal labour are excluded. If the first needs two extra hours monthly and the second six, time changes the economic comparison even when you do not pay yourself. These are fictional figures, not platform quotations.
Add taxes, currency conversion, renewals, support and migration from your actual offers. Ask what happens if a paid extension ends: does checkout stop or does a secondary convenience disappear? Do not base a long operating commitment on a first-month discount. The official WooCommerce setup checklist also helps distinguish installation from the work required to prepare a functioning store.
Make a decision you can revisit
Mark every essential requirement passed, requiring work or unavailable. A critical failure should delay selection even when the overall points look attractive. Compare convenience, cost and flexibility after those requirements pass. Record the reason, maintenance owner and next review date. Before migrating, distinguish an actual platform limit from a configuration error or an incomplete internal procedure.
Is WooCommerce really free?
Core software does not eliminate hosting, maintenance, time or extensions. It can suit a business that understands and provides those responsibilities through a team or service. Compare the complete arrangement you will operate.
Is Shopify’s app count enough to choose it?
Apps are potential options. Value comes from the particular integration you need working with your country, contract and budget. Test that integration, its support and its renewal conditions.
When is Matjri a suitable choice?
When your actual workflow tests succeed and the service conditions and cost suit you. Your next step is to write five requirements your store cannot operate without and request equivalent evidence from every option.
