How much does a Tunisian online store cost? Build a yearly budget
A store budget extends beyond a subscription and domain. Separate setup, recurring expenses, order costs and tied-up cash using a worked annual TND example. The figures teach a method and do not represent current platform or supplier prices.

There is no single correct cost for every Tunisian online store. Product range, workload, delivery, payment and technical support all change the result. A low headline subscription can become expensive to operate. Build a budget separating initial setup, expenses payable without sales and costs that change with orders. Then add a cash calendar: money needed today may exceed expenses associated with sales because inventory and expected collections have not yet become available cash.
Separate four categories before comparing offers
Setup includes content, samples, design and initial assistance. Recurring fixed expenses cover your chosen platform, domain and tools. Variable costs include packaging, payment processing and delivery funded by the business. Working capital covers stock purchases, collection delays and incident reserves. Do not combine these categories casually and call the total profit or loss, since buying inventory does not mean every unit was sold in the same year.
Record the unit and period for each line: monthly, annually, per order created or per order delivered? Are taxes included? Does an introductory price change on renewal? Ask what you must buy or do outside the offer to run your actual workflow. If adapting the order process requires technical assistance, include an explicit maintenance allowance rather than assuming every intervention will be free and immediate.
An illustrative first-year budget
The following numbers are training assumptions, not prices charged by Matjri or another provider. Assume 300 TND setup, 40 TND monthly platform cost, 30 TND annual domain cost and 15 TND monthly optional tools. Annual fixed spending becomes 300 + 480 + 30 + 180 = 990 TND. Assume 1,200 delivered orders during the year solely to demonstrate allocation. This is not a sales forecast or a promised outcome.
| Illustrative item | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Once | 300 TND |
| Platform | 40 × 12 | 480 TND |
| Domain | Annual | 30 TND |
| Optional tools | 15 × 12 | 180 TND |
| Annual fixed total | Sum | 990 TND |
| Per delivered order | 990 ÷ 1,200 | 0.825 TND |
At only 300 deliveries, the fixed allocation becomes 3.30 TND per delivery. The subscription did not change; the number of outcomes supporting it changed. Build a low and a middle scenario instead of using only optimistic volume to justify a difficult-to-cancel annual commitment.
Add order costs without confusing who pays
For a fictional product selling at 45 TND, assume 22 TND goods cost, 1 TND packaging, 4 TND delivery contribution, 6 TND acquisition and 2 TND allowance for variable losses. That leaves 10 TND before fixed expenses, taxes and anything omitted. After the 0.825 TND fixed allocation, the simplified contribution becomes 9.175 TND at 1,200 deliveries. It is not final net profit.
When the customer pays shipping, separate the amount charged from the courier amount owed. For electronic payments, examine your contract, processing fees, refunds and settlement rather than copying a generic percentage. Flouci onboarding documentation explains joining the service; current commercial conditions come from your actual offer and contract. An old post is not a reliable quotation for this year or your business situation.
Why margin does not eliminate cash needs
Buying 100 units at 22 TND ties up 2,200 TND. Add 300 TND setup and 200 TND testing and the initial requirement is 2,700 TND before emergency reserves, even though some units remain in stock. Delayed collections can require supplier and advertising payments before sales receipts arrive. Put expected payment dates beside expected collection dates rather than relying only on a positive annual total.
Choose a reserve appropriate to business variability and decide how to respond to delayed settlements or higher returns. Smaller initial stock or postponing an optional tool may be preferable to weakening packaging. Review choices using money actually received rather than the order value shown in an advertising dashboard.
Compare a full operating year
Depending on the solution, check hosting, maintenance, support, payment and delivery extensions, and access to your data. WooCommerce hosting documentation describes different arrangements; responsibilities depend on the service selected. Test your workflow before paying for customisation. You can try organising products and orders with Matjri and enter the conditions actually offered in your comparison, without assuming a price from this article.
Review monthly to avoid renewal surprises
- Keep invoices, currency and the conversion actually paid.
- Distinguish necessary tools from unused subscriptions.
- Include unsuccessful-order and return costs visibly.
- Record renewal dates, cancellation terms and the decision owner.
- Explain the three largest differences between budget and actual spending before changing assumptions.
Should I value my own time?
Yes when comparing the economics of different solutions, even without paying yourself a salary. Record hours and an estimated value separately from cash expenses. A system requiring unlimited unpaid owner time is not automatically scalable.
Is every inventory purchase an annual expense?
Not necessarily. Keep records of purchases, units sold and units remaining, and ask an accountant about the treatment appropriate to your activity. A management spreadsheet is not a substitute for official accounting requirements.
How can I begin with little money?
Use a narrow range and tests that resolve specific uncertainties. Delay spending that does not solve a demonstrated problem. Start by filling the four categories from written offers, then calculate a low-delivery scenario before committing money.
